Frequently Asked Questions

What is Operation Golda / Who are we?

Donate. Source. Deliver. Operation Golda is a grass-roots organization that mobilised following the terror attacks in Israel on 7 October 2023. Our goal is to respond quickly to urgent requests for humanitarian aid. We use the generous donations we receive to source and deliver critical supplies such as medical equipment, clothing and other supplies directly to Israel through various Non-Governmental Civilian Aid organisations, with whom we are working in partnership and who have authorised our activities in Australia. We are also working directly with Magen David Adoa and ZAKA (the organisation in Israel that is tasked with identifying and honouring the dead).

What is our mission?

We started as a WhatsApp group, and in less than a week, grew to 1000 members, demonstrating the tremendous desire by the local Jewish community to act in a positive and tangible way to assist Israel. Our mission therefore is to harness the power of community to help Israel in her time of need at speed. Thanks to the unprecedented and generous response of the community to date and the many volunteers who have given their time around the clock, Operation Golda has already successfully helped many communities in Israel affected by terror.

Why are we doing this? Why not just raise money?

Major local Jewish charities are not able to purchase supplies or equipment within Australia to send: they are focused on the critically important work of fundraising for projects within Israel. Operation Golda works differently. We respond to urgent requests for humanitarian aid by raising funds to purchase and supply critical medical equipment for MDA ambulances, hospitals and ZAKA. As a grassroots, nimble organization, we are well placed to source and deliver specific equipment in response to ever-changing circumstances on the ground in Israel.

How are we achieving our goals and mission?

As a nimble organization, we are able to pivot quickly to meet the urgent and evolving needs of NGOs in Israel. We have established a seamless supply chain to source, fly and deliver medical and other supplies directly to ambulances, hospitals and displaced citizens.

We work directly with many of the major civilian NGOs in Israel, primarily Magen David Adom (MDA), and ZAKA. With the unprecedented violence and injury that is being experienced, suppliers in Israel are exhausting the medical equipment needed to save civilian lives.  We therefore have to work quickly to fulfil urgent and specific requests, purchasing life-saving medical equipment while continuing to support displaced families with thermal wear, rain gear and warm clothing with the onset of winter in Israel. Through our ongoing communication with these NGOs, we have identified the exact products and specs needed and established a means to source and send Australian products that are in short supply or unavailable in Israel.

We are raising urgent funds through the registered charity, The Chai Charitable Foundation Ltd, to purchase critical supplies.

What are our current key initiatives and focus to help Israel / how can you help?

We need your donations now to fulfil Operation Golda’s immediate priority, which is to raise $850,000 to purchase life-saving medical equipment in Australia that is in short-supply in Israel. These supplies will then be airfreighted to Israel and delivered directly to MDA’s ambulances and first-responders.

This equipment includes:

  • 40,000 Burn Dressings

  • 10,000 Cat Tourniquets

  • 10,000 Haemostatic Gauze Dressings

  • 25,000 Specialised First Aid Dressings

  • 15,000 Trauma Blankets

We are purchasing this equipment at wholesale prices so as to maximize the impact of funds raised.  Any extra funds raised will be used to purchase additional supplies for MDA’s urgent requirements.

How often are you going to send an order?

Each time, we pass $100,000, we will place an order.  The current order will cover the Trauma Blankets and the Burn Dressings and we hope to have it leave Australia within a few days.

What have we achieved to date?

In just two weeks, Operation Golda has already successfully sent a significant quantity of supplies to Israel to help displaced families affected by the terror. These include:

  • Dollars raised: $180K+ in two weeks.

  • Humanitarian aid sent: 1842kg including 1200kg of first aid and trauma supplies.

  • Winter clothing:  30+ suitcases of thermal wear and rain gear.

  • Emergency safety equipment: 65 specialist particle respirators/masks for ZAKA.

Which charities and organizations in Israel are we supporting?

Operation Golda works directly with civilian organizations and NGOs, including MDA, ZAKA, and others.
